Chris Brookfield, Managing Director, Seattle
Chris Brookfield is Managing Director of Elevar Equity and has been managing the Unitus Equity Fund, which began in 2006 as a boutique, commercial microfinance investment vehicle sponsored by Unitus. Previously, Chris was an entrepreneur and venture capitalist, working primarily across the spectrums of digital wireless, web based marketing and targeting, and software for mobile devices. His most recent position as a conventional venture capitalist was as Managing Director with Northwest Venture Associates where he focused on seed and early stage investing. Chris has served as a Director or observer on the boards of several companies, including SinglePoint, NetMotion Wireless, Sightward, AdRelevance, Action Engine and IP Fabrics. He also previously worked as an analyst in project finance; co-founded Cap & Gown, a youth mentoring program; and served on the Advisory Board of American Rivers, a conservation group. Chris graduated with Honors in Geology from Williams College.

Maya Chorengel, Managing Director, San Francisco
Maya Chorengel has been involved in microfinance investing since 2005. Prior to becoming Managing Director of Elevar Equity, she was Managing Director of the Dignity Fund, a private investment fund that provided loans and guarantees to commercially oriented, high-growth microfinance i nstitutions throughout the developing world. Maya also serves on the boards of the Dignity Fund and Silicon Valley Microfinance Network, the advisory board of WaterPartners International, as well as the investment committees of the Dignity Fund, MicroCredit Enterprises and Wokai. Prior to joining the Dignity Fund, Maya was a Vice President of the private equity firm, Warburg Pincus, working in the firm’s New York, Hong Kong and Menlo Park offices. She invested in a variety of companies spanning venture capital to leveraged buyouts to post-Asian crisis balance sheet restructurings. Earlier in her career she was an associate in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley Asia Limited (Hong Kong and Singapore) and an analyst at James D. Wolfensohn, Incorporated. Maya graduated with Honors in Social Studies from Harvard University and has a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Sandeep Farias, Managing Director, Bangalore
Sandeep Farias is Managing Director of Elevar Equity and was most recently Chief Innovation Officer and India Head at Unitus. Beginning in 2004, he led Unitus’ India strategy and operations and grew Unitus’ India network from one microfinance partner to ten, providing strategic operational advice and board guidance, as well as test piloting ideas and projects that would shape the microfinance industry and Unitus’ long-term strategy. Sandeep serves on the boards of microfinance companies, Bharatha Swamukti Samsthe (BSS) and Ujjivan Financial Services. Previously, Sandeep headed the corporate sector practice at Nishith Desai Associates (a leading Indian law firm) across Mumbai, Bangalore and Palo Alto, where he led mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, foreign direct investment, and venture capital and private equity investments. He also founded and led the social sector practice at the firm. The work that he and his team did for the American India Foundation following the Gujarat earthquake received the International Financial Law Review’s Asian Law Firm of the Year (Pro Bono) Award in 2001. Sandeep holds an integrated law and arts honors degree from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India.

Johanna Posada, Managing Director, Seattle
Johanna Posada is Managing Director of Elevar Equity and was most recently Senior Associate of the Unitus Equity Fund. Since 2006, she conducted end to end transactions for 6 investments and 3 follow-on rounds for the fund, including sourcing, analysis, due diligence and structuring. Johanna serves on the board of Credex, a microfinance institution in Mexico. Previously, Johanna was the MFI Investment Manager of Unitus, where she employed financing mechanisms and structures to remove financing constraints of several microfinance companies. Johanna was also primarily responsible for sourcing and managing the MFI pipeline around the globe, leading a team of analysts to conduct economic, market and institutional analysis to determine target countries and initial screening of over 50 deals. Prior to joining Unitus, Johanna worked as a senior financial specialist at ExxonMobil’s Exploration Company, providing financial, strategic and analytical support to the African Region and Corporate groups, and as an Economist at the Economic Research Department of the Central Bank of Mexico. Johanna holds a B.A. in economics from the ITAM (Mexico City) and a M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Geoff Woolley, Chairman
Geoff has been active in private equity investing for over 25 years and has founded two successful venture funds in the United States and Europe. He pioneered the concept of venture debt and has invested in over four hundred companies in his career. He is founding partner of Dominion Ventures, Inc., Chairman of European Venture Partners, and Chairman of MACC Private Equity. Forming Dominion in 1985 at the age of 24, he is the youngest person to raise an institutional private equity fund in which he raised and managed over $750,000,000 while realizing attractive returns for investors. In 1998, he assumed an advisory role at Dominion in order to pursue other non-profit and business interests. Among many positions, he currently holds a board seat at Unitus, Inc. and is well connected in the microfinance industry.
